Movie Review: Iron Lung

It’s a girls night! And though it was the premier of Paris Hilton’s movie (and I did try to convince Jess to back to back the movies) it was also the premier of Mark Fishbach aka Markiplier’s movie Iron Lung. Which was something Jess and I had been waiting for for a while. Especially since Mark was one of the Youtubers Jess and I would watch together all the time, and if you ask me why not now. It’s because Mark was busy making a movie and we were busy planning her wedding! So we have both been productive hahaha.

Irong Lung was one of the games I did not watch Mark play and it was exciting to go to the movie without any idea what to expect. To note as well, when it comes to adaptations I tend to be a purist and get really annoyed when things don’t meet the original standard. I feel like things get lost are mis understood and truly it’s annoying when it’s something that feels like a major plot point to me and it just gets bluntly overlooked for the sake of time or content change.

Yet it’s always interesting to watch a movie where the whole film takes place in one spot. I.E the Buried movie with Ryan Reynolds that came out a million years ago. There is such a juxtaposition with movies that only have one area that the movie takes place in compared to typical movies that have multiple sets. It really is up to the actor to keep you entertained through the whole process.

Overall I felt like the movie was good. It was not by any means Great or perfect but it was good. Going in with no expectations except that there will be a lot of blood was the best choice for me. I was properly spooked when I was supposed to be and in long lulls of purposely constructed boredom I felt much more in tuned to what you were supposed to feel for the plot and Simon. Do I wish the movie ended differently of course I do, but at the same time dissatisfying endings are also a harsh reminder that not everything gets a perfect ending.

Mark’s acting was also a lot better than I was expecting. Going in with the idea that he is a youtuber who isn’t “classically trained” in acting he did an amazing job! You can see that he deeply cared about the project and that he was actively trying to make something good.

Call me biased because I’ve been watching Mark’s content for well over 10 years but I truly think him and the other cast and crew did a fantastic job. Since watching the movie I have gone back and watched him play the game and I believe he did the game justice.

Possible Unpopular Opinion: I think I may like the movie more than the game.

Though an unconventional way to kick off Galentine’s month, seeing Iron Lung Opening Weekend was a great time with the girls to hang out after a week of being locked inside after a major snowstorm. I also want to watch it again because I missed the appearance of Jacksepticeye and apparently it was obvious and I am just dumb so I may sneak to the theater again just to see it, and to support Mark more.
Until Next Time, Ciao
