My Problem with Dumbledore

This post was hard to write, not because I was grasping at straws but because of a lot of people like Dumbledore. I won’t deny that he is a defender of the light and a man who made mistakes when he was young. But my issues go back approximately the last 20 years of his life when he was an older man who could think logically about what he was doing.

My first set of problems begin with Sirius Black. The man spent TWELVE YEARS in Azkaban sentence without a trial that was approved by the Cheif Warlock of the Wizengamot, who was led by dear old Albus. And because Sirius was in jail and the hag Umbridge made prejudice werewolf laws, Harry was forced to live a lonely life with his terrible Aunt and Uncle. Also, who knows what kind of state Sirius left Azkaban in. It’s a surprise he managed to stay as sane as he was (not saying he was perfectly fine but still). From beginning to end Sirius led a short life with many abusive dark moments that could never be adequately returned to him, and if J.K. Rowling can find a way to bring him back from the veil, she better the man deserves it and so does Harry.

Speaking about Harry, he is the man who has been most victimised by Albus Dumbledore (Sorry Regina maybe another day) no matter how you look at it Dumbledore has manipulated Harry’s entire life for the greater good. Forcing Harry to be abused, malnutrition and oh yes! ALONE! If that is not enough for you, Dumbledore uses him as a pawn to go through and spend seven years of his life fighting a madman, and no matter what happens Harry still idolises the man. Talk about an abusive relationship it is like Dumbledore manipulates the child to think he is the most exceptional wizard/person on the planet so that Harry can forget all of the terrible things and follow him blindly.

Dumbledore never explains to Harry that he is a Horcrux and tells him nothing about why he should trust Snape besides his word. Dumbledore remains vague and manipulates Harry so much that I feel that even in the end Harry doesn’t genuinely grasp the way Dumbledore manages him throughout the whole series.

Year one he rewards Harry for Breaking the rules. Year two Who The Hell thinks Gilderoy Lockheart is a good choice as Defense Against the Dark Arts professor? Like I get it no one wants a cursed job position but my gawd that man was a terrible teacher. Year three he encourages Harry and Hermione to change time which though I approve of helping Sirius, as Chief Warlock I think Albus has more pull then telling two 13-year-olds to do the deed. (I’m sorry Harry is 13 Hermione is 14) Year four how does Dumbledore not realise that a professor is teaching students about unforgiveables by demonstrating them on creatures. 😒 Not amused Albus not amused. Year five Oh my gawd year five! I feel like a lot of things like sneaking off of school grounds causing Sirius to reach his death could have been avoided if Dumbledore just spoke to Harry was open with him with what was going on (yes he apologises and admits that he should have done that in the beginning but COME ON!). Year Six I’m going to sidetrack this rant and talk about someone else Albus has done wrong.

Draco Malfoy prat of all prats. The actual image of the schoolyard bully that no matter if you say he redeemable or not ( I believe he is capable of good if given a chance sorry J.K. Rowling). But during his 6th year, he is tasked with killing the headmaster and Dumbledore does not approach him till the very end. You do not let a 16-year-old sit there and suffer all year then decide let’s tell him I knew the whole time, and I am choosing now to reach out and help. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Now onto year seven, the man is Dead, and he is deader than dead and still finds ways to tell Harry things through others. Harry feels compelled to finish out Dumbledores task not realising he is the one who must die. Dumbledore doesn’t sound remorseful or regretful for what he did; he just kind of lets it be, Why does a dead man expect a 17-year-old to accept death as a friend.

Overall I believe that in the end, Dumbledore is far from the man people make him be. Never a time in my life where I felt like I was on the same page as Rita Skeeter. I am sorry if you love Dumbledore. I feel like it is an injustice to so many if you continue to put Dumbledore on a pedestal and not show his faults for what they were.

Until Next Time… Ciao
