Inside my universe wedding bells are ringing. No, I am not getting married, but between myself attending and my friends attending weddings in the next few months it has me scrambling to find the perfect outfit thats appropriate and still cute for the wedding. Which made me decide that this post would be about just that dress codes for weddings. Now my small little disclaimer is this is what I have learned from my experiences at the end of the day if you have any questions about the appropriateness of something either A) Don’t do it or B) Ask the bride.
Rule #1 Unless advised by the bride never wear white. Traditionally the bride wears white or some variation of the color. For a guest to wear that color is immediately drawing attention to themselves and away from the bride. Its her day keep it that way.
Rule #2 Similar to the first rule but a bit more general watch the color and print of the outfit you wear. Keep everything neutral and avoid vibrant and distracting prints. The reason is the same as the first, avoid un needed attention wearing a neon dress may not be the most appropriate outfit for the wedding,
Rule #3 Be aware of the length and cut of your outfit. Meaning make sure that its acceptable, some churches don’t let you in unless your shoulders are covered and the length of a skirt or dress is knee length. Though it doesn’t mean you have to wear a gown just make sure the length is acceptable to meet the Queen or if your grandmother would approve. This also includes making sure the neckline isn’t plunging down (you would be surprised of the things I have seen this actually happens).
Rule #4 This is more of a suggestion, bring flats if you aren’t already wearing them. Why? because after a while heels hurt and why would you want to walk around barefoot in a nice venue? You can find cute inexpensive pairs at shoe stores my go to is always plain nude ballet flats they match everything and they don’t hurt your feet.
Rule #5 If the invitation tells you what to wear, wear it. This is the Bride and Groom explaining exactly how they envision the wedding and if that means everyone is wearing ox blood red try your best to find ox blood red.
Hopefully you enjoyed this, and if you find that you have more tips comment and let me know! Time to go look for a dress for the next wedding!
Until Next Time Ciao!
